Q. What if a medical need arises while my student group is at Highland Lakes OLC?

  • It is recommended, if at all possible, that the school nurse attend OLC to handle dispensing of medications and minor illness or injury.
  • In the event of an emergency, the first responders are the Pedernales Fire Department and Pace Bend Park Rangers.

Q. What can you tell me about the lodging and accommodation at Highland Lakes OLC?

Lodging at Highland Lakes OLC

  • Separate cabins for boys and girls.
  • Teachers, school administrators, and parents provide supervision in dorms. (1 adult per 8 students is required).
  • All cabins are air conditioned and have private toilet and shower areas.
  • Dorm style cabins with bunk beds.
  • Most cabins consist of two sleeping areas separated by a meeting room.

Q. How are the children supervised throughout their stay at Highland Lakes OLC?

  • Students are supervised all day.Throughout the day students are never left unattended.
  • Students travel to and from all activities led by Highland Lakes Camp Staff or teachers.




Q. How is the food at Highland Lakes OLC?

  • Highland Lakes has great food.All meals are freshly prepared and meet the daily nutritional standards.
  • Dietary restrictions can be accommodated with advance notice.

 

 

Q. What are the qualifications of Highland Lakes' staff?

  • HLOLC staff hold current certifications in First Aid, CPR, Water Safety, and/or as a Challenge Course Facilitator.
  • All staff have on record with Highland Lakes Camp:
    - Criminal Background check
    - Sex Offender Background check
    - Certificate of completion of Child Protection Training

Q. What measures are taken to ensure safety of students?

  • Highland Lakes takes the safety of your child seriously.
  • The rules and guidelines are clearly communicated to students before they begin all activities.
  • All activities are age appropriate.
  • Students are required to wear a lifejacket for all lakefront activities.

Q. What do students bring?

  • Clothing Appropriate for Outside Activities
    (caps, sunglasses, tennis shoes)
